To design a product for airports, I would first seek to understand the core problem Google aims to solve in this space. Key clarifying questions would include:
- Target User & Problem: Who are we designing for (travelers, airport staff, airlines, etc.), and what specific pain points are we addressing (e.g., navigation, security wait times, baggage tracking, passenger experience, operational efficiency)?
- Scope & Geography: Are we focusing on a specific region or type of airport (e.g., major international hubs, smaller regional airports)? For a new product, I'd propose starting with major US airports to validate the concept before global expansion.
- Business Goals & Timeline: What are Google's strategic objectives for entering the airport market? What is the desired launch timeline and any key performance indicators (KPIs) for success? Assuming a one-year timeline for a new product.
My initial product concept would leverage Google's strengths in AI, machine learning, and data analytics to enhance the passenger journey and operational efficiency. For instance, a "Smart Airport Assistant" could offer personalized, real-time navigation, predict and alert passengers to potential delays or gate changes, optimize security screening queues through predictive analytics, and provide seamless integration with other travel services. This would tap into an underserved market by applying cutting-edge technology to a traditionally complex and often frustrating environment.
