Free ATS resume checker

See your resume the way an applicant tracking system reads it: whether the text parses, whether your contact details and headings are found, and which skills from the job description you name. You get a plain fix for each problem.

Checked against how Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and iCIMS document their parsing. Your resume is never stored.

How an ATS actually reads your resume

Parsing and ranking are different steps.

An ATS first extracts your resume into fields (name, experience, skills). Ranking, if the employer turns it on, is a separate, employer-configured step.

There is no universal ATS score.

Workday lets each employer build its own ranking template; Ashby’s AI review scores against criteria the employer writes. A checker’s match rate is that checker’s own measure, and no vendor publishes a shared pass mark like 75%.

Some files cannot be read at all.

Lever cannot parse image files such as JPG or PNG, and a PDF whose text you cannot highlight is likely unparseable. Workday says results vary with format and word order, and work best without images.

Keywords help, but only true ones.

A missing keyword flags wording a recruiter search might use. Adding a technology you have not used gets you past a search, not an interview.

Frequently asked

What does this ATS resume checker test?

Whether the PDF has readable text, whether your email and links are in plain text, whether it uses standard headings (Experience, Education, Skills), whether dates are in a format parsers read, the length, whether characters come out clean, and, if you paste a job description, which of its skills your resume names.

Is my resume stored?

No. It is read once to run the check and then discarded. Nothing is saved, and you do not need an account.

What is a good ATS score?

There is no universal one. Each employer configures its own system, and checkers each compute their own number. Our score is a checklist: aim for every item to pass, and only add skills you have really used.

Why does my resume fail the text check?

It is probably a scanned image or exported as a picture. Many parsers cannot read images at all. Export a PDF from Word, Google Docs or your resume tool so the text can be selected.

Do columns and tables break an ATS?

Sometimes. Parsers can read multi-column text out of order, and Workday notes that results vary with format and word order. A single-column layout with plain headings is the safest choice.
