What happens when the JVM Garbage Collector releases a property static of a class?

Static variables belong to the class itself, not to any specific instance. When a class is unloaded by the JVM (which typically happens when no instances of the class exist and no references to its static members remain), its associated static variables are also eligible for garbage collection. The JVM's garbage collector reclaims the memory occupied by these static variables when they are no longer reachable.
