Debug from evidence, not guesses

First make the failure reproducible and state the expected versus actual result, including input, environment, version, and logs. Reduce it to the smallest failing example, then trace the boundary where the invariant first becomes false: validate inputs, intermediate state, side effects, and error handling. Form one hypothesis at a time, add focused logging or a debugger breakpoint, and change the smallest responsible unit. Once fixed, add a regression test that fails before the change and passes after it, then remove noisy instrumentation. Complexity depends on the code under investigation; the important cost is keeping diagnosis bounded by a minimal case rather than repeatedly exercising a whole system. Check null and empty values, races, time zones, integer boundaries, stale caches, and configuration differences. A workaround without a causal explanation is not a completed debugging answer.

Complexity: For code with n relevant execution steps, reproducing and tracing one deterministic failure is O(n) time and O(1) auxiliary space before any test-suite overhead.
