Number of Ways to Separate Numbers

Avoid reparsing numeric substrings

For the usual formulation, split a digit string into nondecreasing positive integers with no leading zeros. Let DP represent ways whose final number occupies a chosen interval; transitions require comparing the previous equal-length interval with the current one, while shorter previous numbers are automatically smaller. Precompute longest-common-prefix information or another substring-comparison structure so equal-length comparisons are constant time, and use prefix sums to aggregate all shorter-length predecessors efficiently.

This is not a problem for converting substrings to machine integers: lengths can be large and leading zeros matter. A common optimized formulation is O(n²) time and O(n²) space, with all counts modulo the required modulus; describe the exact recurrence once the interviewer confirms constraints. Test a string beginning with zero, repeated digits, one digit, equal-length boundary comparisons, and values that differ only at the last digit. If the title refers to a different separation rule, ask for examples before applying this specific DP.
