How it went

Key Recommendations for Your Journey:

  • Master Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA): Dive deep into DSA. Solve around 300 problems on platforms like LeetCode, but prioritize understanding patterns and tackling related questions within each topic rather than just counting solutions. Consistent participation in competitive programming (e.g., CodeChef, Codeforces) is crucial. These contests act as practical exams, sharpening your problem-solving abilities and expanding your thought processes by analyzing diverse solutions afterward.
  • Develop Foundational Projects: Build practical, well-designed projects. Recruiters often look for clear, fundamental applications and will assess your grasp of the underlying technologies. Quality over quantity here is key.
  • Maintain Academic Standing: Strive for a CGPA of at least 7.5. This generally opens doors to most company eligibility requirements.
  • Cultivate Resilience: It's natural to feel disheartened when peers land opportunities. Instead of comparing yourself, channel that energy into self-improvement. Remind yourself that if others can achieve it, so can you. Trust in your potential and commit to skill development.

How to prepare

My journey into the realm of Data Structures and Algorithms commenced during my second academic year, primarily steered by Striver's A2Z DSA Sheet and consistent participation in competitive programming on CodeChef and Codeforces. Initially, this domain presented considerable challenges, yet by the fourth semester, my comprehension of core concepts profoundly deepened, fostering a robust sense of self-assurance. A pivotal realization emerged from this immersion: human retention is significantly amplified through pattern recognition. Consequently, while tackling problems from Striver’s sheet on LeetCode, I deliberately engaged with related challenges. This systematic approach proved instrumental in identifying recurring patterns, enriching my conceptual understanding, and markedly refining my problem-solving acumen. Furthermore, engaging in contests served as invaluable simulated assessments, allowing me to apply mastered concepts and, post-competition, broaden my strategic perspective by dissecting diverse peer solutions.

Following my fourth semester, I pivoted to Web Development, achieving an intermediate skill level through Harkirat Singh's 0 to 1 Course. My initial strategy involved completing the entire curriculum before initiating practical work, but I soon discovered the superior efficacy of building projects after acquiring fundamental knowledge. Engaging in MERN stack projects once the basics were covered profoundly reinforced my learning and instilled the confidence to explore more advanced topics.

Concurrently, my theoretical foundations in Database Management Systems and Operating Systems were established through dedicated study on GeeksforGeeks. Similarly, I internalized Object-Oriented Programming (OOPs) principles via Love Babbar's comprehensive tutorials.

    Online Assessment120 min

Round was lengthy. Questions: Easy greedy question. Medium DP based. Priority Queue-Based Question.

  2. 2

    Aptitude and Verbal Test.40 min

    Medium-to-hard level aptitude.

  3. 3

    Spoken English Test15 min

Questions were similar to those in this video link.

  4. 4

    Technical Interview45 min

The interview began with a brief introduction, followed by some HR-based questions:

    • Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

    • Why do you want to join Tech Mahindra? Next, the interviewer asked me to explain a project from my resume. While I was explaining my project hosted on GitHub, he asked:

    • What is the difference between ReactJS and NodeJS?

    • What is a closure in JavaScript?

    • He also asked me to **run **the project, and he was impressed with my work. Finally, I was asked a DSA question:

    • Write a** Python** program to check whether a given string is a palindrome.

  5. 5

    HR15 min

The HR asked a few questions to assess my background and motivations:

    • Introduce yourself.
    • Tell me about your family.
    • Discuss a project from your resume that you worked on the most and why it stands out.
    • What motivated you to join Tech Mahindra?
