How to prepare

  • Aptitude & Coding – Practice quant, logical reasoning, and English regularly from online platforms. For coding, focus on basic data structures, string manipulation, and simple logic-based problems.
  • Communication Skills – Work on your grammar, vocabulary, and fluency. Reading English articles aloud and practicing mock communication exercises can really help.
  • Technical Round – Revise Core Java, OOPs, DBMS, and basic problem-solving. Be confident in explaining your projects and their implementation details. Also, practice coding on paper since some interviewers may ask for it.
  • HR Round – Prepare a crisp self-introduction, know why you want to join EY, and be ready to answer questions about relocation, certificates, and joining availability.

I am Souvik Kanungo, a final-year B.Tech student in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at Techno Main Salt Lake. I have strong skills in Java, JavaScript, React.js, Node.js, and databases. I have built projects like a video conferencing app, a version control system, and a stock trading platform. Beyond academics, I have led projects and captained my college cricket team. I am eager to begin my professional journey with EY GDS.

Round by round

  1. 1

    Aptitude & Coding120 min

    The first round consisted of an online assessment with two parts. The aptitude section had three sections Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning, and English, testing problem-solving and analytical skills. After that, there were 2 coding questions on strings, which were of an easy level and needed to be solved within 45 minutes. In total, the round lasted for about 2 hours.

    Communication Assessment90 min

    The second round focused on assessing grammar, vocabulary, and overall communication skills. In this round, candidates were required to listen carefully, memorize the given questions, and then communicate their responses clearly and confidently. The main objective was to test fluency, clarity, and the ability to express thoughts effectively.

    Technical Inteview40 min

    The interviewer was very friendly and started by asking about my schooling and the programming languages I am comfortable with. He then gave me a problem to reverse the words in a string (e.g., Souvik Kanungo → Kanungo Souvik), which I solved on paper within 10 minutes. Next, he asked me to swap two numbers without using a third variable, and later to implement the same using bitwise XOR. After this, he discussed my projects and their implementation details, followed by questions on OOPs, Core Java concepts, and DBMS.

    HR Round10 min

    In the HR round, I was first asked to introduce myself. The interviewer then asked questions like “Why EY?”, how I felt about the previous rounds, and whether I had any certificates for my skills. He also discussed my availability to relocate and asked about my joining timeline.
