I recently had the opportunity to interview for a Java Backend Associate role at BlackRock. I have a B.Tech degree from IIT (Non-CSE) and 3 years of experience from my previous role as an SDE at a service-based organization. My last salary was 11 LPA fixed INR. The offer from BlackRock was made in August 2025, and I’ll be joining their Mumbai office as an Associate with a fixed salary of 25 LPA INR, a bonus of 3 LPA INR, and a total compensation package of approximately 30 LPA INR, which includes salary, bonus, and benefits. The offer does not include a signing bonus or stock options, but it comes with standard BlackRock benefits.

    Coding Round 160 min

    Platform: CodePair

    • The interviewer began with a discussion about my current work projects and my role in them. This was followed by 2 coding questions that tested my problem-solving skills. Question 1: HashMap Problem

    • The problem was of medium difficulty, involving the use of HashMap to solve the given task, I was able to solve within the given time frame. Question 2: Java Multithreading

    • This was a relatively simple question related to Java Multithreading. The problem tested my understanding of basic threading concepts and how threads operate in a Java environment.

    Coding Round 260 min

    The second round focused primarily on Core Java concepts, including Garbage Collection (GC) and Multithreading. Java topics Garbage Collection- The process, types, and how memory management works in Java. Multithreading- The implementation of threads, synchronization, thread lifecycle, and thread pools. Interviewer asked me to explain Design Patterns and how I applied them in previous projects, especially focusing on Singleton and Factory Design Patterns.

    Hiring Manager Round60 min

    In-depth discussion about my current work projects. I was asked to explain the challenges I faced and how I overcame them.

    • Design Patterns: The interviewer was very particular about understanding how well I understood the practical application of design patterns in real-world.
    • Behavioral Questions: The HM asked several situational questions, including:
    • Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a challenging team member.
    • What motivates you to apply to BlackRock, and why do you want to switch?
    • How do you manage to meet deadlines while ensuring quality work?
