Software Systems Engineer — Contributor, IX Platform

We are seeking a Systems Engineer — Contributor to join our global IX Platform team, where innovation knows no borders. This team builds and maintains high-scale backend services and cloud-native platform capabilities for enterprise travel and airline technology solutions. As part of a newly created team in Kraków, it delivers foundational microservices, APIs and data flows that power core retailing and fulfillment workflows. You will focus on hands-on backend development using Java, modern cloud components and microservice architectures. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and architects, you will build, test and maintain production-quality software while expanding your technical skills across distributed systems. You will work on well-defined engineering assignments, gradually increasing your ownership as you build deeper platform and domain expertise. This role requires strong engineering discipline, natural curiosity, clear communication and a drive to build scalable software.

What You'll Do

• Backend Engineering: Develop, test and maintain backend services using Java and modern JDK features following established engineering practices.
• API Development: Build, extend and document RESTful APIs based on defined contracts, technical designs and error-handling standards.
• Microservices Architecture: Contribute to microservice architectures, focusing on service logic, configuration, communication patterns and deployment readiness.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Work with cloud-native technologies within Google Cloud Platform, including containerized services, managed cloud components, logging and deployment pipelines.
• Event-Driven Systems: Implement and maintain messaging and event-driven components using queues, event streams and asynchronous processing.
• Data Persistence: Develop database access logic and write SQL queries across relational and NoSQL databases to support data consistency and performance.
• Testing & Quality: Write unit, integration and component tests, fix defects and actively participate in code reviews to maintain high quality.
• Support & Debugging: Support investigation and debugging of production and integration issues using logs, monitoring tools, API traces and database queries, with guidance from senior team members when needed.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate across senior engineers, QA, Product, Architecture, SRE and Delivery teams to clarify requirements and deliver technical assignments.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Practical experience in Java backend development with a solid understanding of core JDK concepts, including collections, streams, concurrency basics and JVM fundamentals.
• Proven experience building or maintaining backend services and REST APIs, including request handling, validation, error handling and authentication basics.
• Solid understanding of microservices concepts, service boundaries, inter-service communication and deployment patterns.
• Familiarity with cloud-native concepts, preferably Google Cloud Platform, including containerized applications, logging, monitoring and CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to messaging and event-driven systems such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, JMS or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL queries and basic NoSQL concepts.
• Hands-on experience with Git, automated testing, build tools, dependency management and Agile delivery methodologies.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and clear written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework or similar Java frameworks.
• Hands-on exposure to GCP services such as GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Storage or Cloud Build.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes basics, Helm or containerized environments.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI/Swagger, API gateways, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT or enterprise identity integrations.
• Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, Redis or Elasticsearch.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, Terraform or infrastructure automation tools.
• Domain experience in travel, airline technology, retailing, booking or high-scale transaction systems.
