Experimental Physicist - Trap

Quantum Art, a full stack quantum computing company, develops state of the art quantum computing systems based on trapped-ion technology. We build our own quantum processing units (QPUs), develop novel quantum gates and circuits, and implement new algorithms capable of solving problems beyond the reach of classical computing. The trap group is responsible for the core of the QPU, utilizing electromagnetic fields to trap and manipulate our ion qubit register. We are looking for an experimental physicistto join the team.

Job description

• Design new generation ion traps from basic principles through electromagnetic simulation, mechanical design, fabrication (via external contractors), testing and integration in the labs
• Contribute to developing our ion trapping simulator and trap control software tools, which account for trap geometry and ion interactions to provide accurate predictions at real-time.
• Carry out ion loading, trapping, shuttling and heating related experiments in the lab.
• Support our engineers on the physical aspects of board design, low noise electronics, cryogenics, thermal conductance and vacuum environment, improving system design to meet QPU performance goals.

· Ph.D. in Experimental Physics (outstanding M.Sc candidates will be considered)

· Experience in hands-on experimental lab work as well as applied theory and simulations

· Working experience with scripting (preferably Python)

· Excellent cross-disciplinary communication, teamwork, leadership and mentorship skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· Work experience in the industry

· Significant background in any of the following: AMO physics, quantum science and technology, electrical engineering, low noise electronics, optics, cryogenics

· Proficiency in Solidworks, Comsol

· Experience with microfabrication, characterization and clean-room work
